Ah, so Texas and Texas Tech got the shaft. Their not the only ones getting it either. Using the BCS to determine the championship game representatives is dumb enough, but to allow the BCS to determine a conference champion is insane. I am fully in the camp that believes the top decision makers in college football need a brain transplant.
Creating a perfect system to determine the FBS champion is impossible, but continuing to use a horrible system is completely wrong. This will be the eighth time in eleven years that the BCS system has failed to produce a championship game with the two best teams. Ironically, this is exact reason why the BCS system was created, to overcome the problems with the Bowl Alliance system. No result from this coming weekend can change this disaster because there are too many one loss teams in the mix.
Why should a one loss USC, Texas and Penn State be excluded from the BCS title game over a one loss Florida and Oklahoma? If Oklahoma and Florida lose this weekend, USC and Penn State are still left out despite having only one loss. Utah and Boise should also be included in the discussion, though I do believe their conference schedules are easier to navigate than the SEC, Big 12, ACC, Big East and Big 10 - the only exception might be the PAC 10. I am refraining from including Texas Tech because of the severity of their one loss.
Someone smarter than me needs to explain how an eight team playoff is difficult to incorporate? In my previous post, I outlined a perfect way to implement a playoff into the FBS. The bowls can be protected, the money will still be earned, only two teams would play 16 games, there would still be time for exams and a true national champion would be crowned each season. Call me crazy, but why would this be a problem?
